Offshore operations, known in Dutch as offshoreoperaties, describe activities conducted at sea that support energy production, resource extraction, and maritime infrastructure beyond coastal waters. These activities span design, installation, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of equipment located offshore in the continental shelf region, including the seabed and water column.

Common sectors include offshore oil and gas production (platforms, subsea wells, FPSOs), offshore wind energy (turbine installation, subsea cables, substations), and offshore construction and maintenance (pipelines, substations, platforms).

Key assets and technologies include drilling rigs (jack-up, semisubmersible, drillship), production platforms, FPSOs, offshore substations, and offshore support vessels (OSVs). Subsea systems with remote-operated vehicles (ROVs) and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), dynamic positioning vessels, and helicopter or crew transfer by boat provide logistics. Remote monitoring and process control are increasingly used.

Operations are governed by national and international regulations and standards covering safety and environmental protection, with risk management including hazard identification, barrier management, and emergency response planning. Safety training such as mandatory induction, BOSIET/FOET, and ongoing competency development are typical components of offshore work.

Environmental and social considerations include spill prevention and response, emissions management, waste handling, habitat protection, and decommissioning of offshore facilities at end of life. The field continues to evolve with advances in technology, safety culture, and sustainable practices.
