Nonstackable refers to items that cannot be grouped or merged in a single container or inventory slot. In contrast to stackable items, which can be combined up to a maximum quantity per slot, nonstackable items require individual space for each unit.

In video games and software with inventories, most items either stack with a maximum size (e.g., 99) or are nonstackable, occupying one slot per unit. Some games allow stacking only if items are identical in type and attributes; otherwise, even identical-looking items may be nonstackable. Nonstackable items affect inventory management, drop rates, and crafting, as acquiring multiple copies may require more slots.

In e-commerce and logistics, non-stackable goods cannot be packed or shipped as a single bundle; they are treated as separate units for counting and fulfillment. Listings may still show a quantity, but physical handling requires individual packaging and storage.

In data models, a flag like stackable or a maxStackSize property defines the behavior. Nonstackable items typically have a maxStackSize of 1. The designation helps game designers balance gameplay and inventory constraints or helps retailers with fulfillment planning.
