Myopiassa is the Finnish inessive form of myopia, the state of being nearsighted. In Finnish medical language it means "in myopia" or "in a state of nearsightedness." The English equivalent is myopia.

Myopia is a common refractive error in which distant objects appear blurred while near objects remain clear. It typically begins in childhood or adolescence and may progress for several years, sometimes stabilizing in early adulthood.

Causes include elongation of the eyeball (axial myopia) and/or excessive corneal curvature or lens power, causing the focal point to fall in front of the retina. Genetic factors are strong; environmental factors such as prolonged near work and limited outdoor time are associated with progression.

In children, low-dose atropine eye drops and increased outdoor activity have shown some success in slowing progression.

Complications are mainly associated with high myopia, including retinal detachment, myopic maculopathy, glaucoma, and cataracts.
