Missilsystem is an integrated set of equipment, software, and procedures designed to deploy missiles in a coordinated manner to detect, track, target, and engage threats at various ranges. It covers a range of configurations, including ground-based air defense systems, naval missile defense complexes, and air-launched or submarine-launched systems. The term is used to describe both defensive and, in some contexts, offensive missile capabilities within a broader military architecture.

A missilsystem comprises several core elements. The missiles themselves are paired with launchers that may be fixed, silo-based, mobile on wheeled or tracked platforms, or deployed on ships and submarines. A fire-control system coordinates target acquisition, fire allocation, and engagement sequencing, often relying on radar, electro-optical sensors, and satellite navigation. Command, control, communications, and intelligence (C3I) links integrate the system into larger defense networks, enabling joint operation with other sensors and weapons.

Guidance and propulsion define how missiles reach their targets. Guidance methods include inertial navigation, satellite navigation, radar or infrared terminal guidance, and sometimes terrain-following techniques. Propulsion can be solid-fuel, liquid-fuel, or hybrid, with multi-stage arrangements for longer-range missiles. Warheads vary in type and purpose, including high-explosive, fragmentation, penetration, or, in limited cases, nuclear payloads, subject to treaty and export controls.

Platforms for missilsystems range from fixed launch complexes and mobile TELs (transportable launcher and radar) to naval batteries, submarines, and aircraft. Modern systems emphasize mobility, survivability, integration with air and space-based sensors, and interoperability with allied networks.
