According to these stories, a respectful offering of herbs or a clean coin would earn the miniselves’ favor, whereas a disrespectful attitude could provoke accidents or bad luck. The belief in miniselves contributed to a communal practice of offering small tokens—often flowers or trinkets—to the “earth spirits” before beginning a shift underground.
