Leftaccelerationism is a heterodox current of thought within the broader accelerationist movement. It shares with other forms of accelerationism the idea that the existing capitalist system is inherently flawed and should be overcome. However, left-accelerationism diverges significantly in its proposed methods and ultimate goals.

Unlike some forms of accelerationism that advocate for accelerating the contradictions of capitalism to hasten its collapse, left-accelerationism generally seeks to leverage or "hijack" certain technological and social developments spurred by capitalism for the benefit of a post-capitalist future. This often involves a critical engagement with advanced automation, artificial intelligence, and networked communication.

Key themes include the decommodification of labor, the potential for universal basic income enabled by automation, and the creation of new forms of social organization and solidarity facilitated by technology. Some proponents believe that these tools, developed under capitalism, can be repurposed to build a more equitable and emancipatory society, rather than simply waiting for capitalism to self-destruct.

Left-accelerationism is not a monolithic ideology and encompasses a range of perspectives. Some thinkers focus on the potential for technological advancements to undermine capitalist property relations, while others emphasize the need for political organization and collective action to steer these developments in a progressive direction. The movement often engages with critiques of neoliberalism and proposes radical technological and social transformations as a response to contemporary crises.
