The insect is primarily found in temperate deciduous forests, with a distribution spanning eastern Europe and the Pacific Northwest of North America. It burrows into shallow mine-like chambers, where it collects and hosts fungus that thrives in moist climates. Kunstivormiga populations flourish at temperatures between 10 and 12 °C, often occupying the leaf litter layer. The insect feeds exclusively on endophytic fungi, contributing to soil nitrogen cycling and decomposition processes. Human interactions with Kunstivormiga are minimal. Its robust exoskeleton makes it resilient to ground disturbances, and researchers occasionally harvest specimens for structural biology studies.
