Kosketusnäyte, often translated as touchscreen, is a display screen that can detect the presence and location of a touch within its display area. It is a human-computer interface technology that allows users to interact with electronic devices directly by touching the screen. Instead of using a separate input device like a mouse or keyboard, users can manipulate on-screen elements by tapping, swiping, pinching, and other gestures.

There are several types of touchscreens, with capacitive and resistive being the most common. Capacitive touchscreens work by sensing the electrical conductivity of the human body. When a finger touches the screen, it disrupts the electrostatic field, and the device registers the touch. These are generally more responsive and durable, commonly found in smartphones and tablets. Resistive touchscreens, on the other hand, use two layers of conductive material separated by a small gap. When pressure is applied, these layers make contact, completing a circuit and registering the touch. They are less sensitive and require more pressure, often seen in older devices or specialized industrial applications.
