Komunikirati is a Slavic verb, derived from the root *komunikat-*, which entered the language from Latin “communicare” meaning “to share, to conjoin.” The verb is used for all forms of information exchange, including oral, written, non‑verbal, and electronic communication. In standard usage it refers both to interpersonal dialogue and to the act of conveying messages to a broader audience, such as in journalism or public relations.

The present tense is performed in a simple analytical construction, e.g. *ja komunikiram* (I communicate). The past participle is *komunikiran*, allowing passive voice: *pismo je komunikirano* (the letter has been communicated). The verb is regular in the infinitive “komunicirati” but irregular in its first‑person singular present *komuniciram* and third‑person plural present *komuniciraju*, reflecting the regular Croatian/Serbian conjugation pattern for verbs of the first conjugation ending in –irati.

Although the literal sense of communication is central, *komunikirati* is also used figuratively to describe coordination or cooperation between entities. For instance, ICT specialists might say *sistemi se komunikiraju* (systems are communicating). In business contexts, the phrase *efikasno komunikirati* (to communicate efficiently) is common in performance reviews.

In everyday speech speakers often shorten the verb to *komunik* as a phrasal verb, especially in colloquial Slovene: *komunik ali je?* (Let’s communicate). However, in formal written texts the full verb stays in the infinitive form. Because of its Latin origin, it shares cognates with many European languages: Italian *comunicare*, French *communiquer*, and English *to communicate*.
