Kompüter is a term used in some languages to denote a computer, an electronic device that follows a set of instructions to process data. A typical computer system comprises a central processing unit (CPU), memory (random-access memory and long-term storage), and input/output interfaces connected by a motherboard and buses. Modern computers are digital devices that represent information in binary form and execute programs stored in non-volatile storage.

Historically, computing devices evolved from mechanical calculators to electromechanical machines and, in the mid-20th century, to electronic computers using vacuum tubes. The invention of the transistor and, later, integrated circuits, allowed miniaturization and increased performance, leading to personal computers in the 1970s and 1980s. Since then, computers have diversified into desktop and laptop PCs, servers, embedded systems, smartphones, and high-performance supercomputers.

Applications cover science, industry, education, finance, and everyday life. Performance is driven by processor speed, memory capacity, storage technology, and software efficiency. Security and privacy concerns, power consumption, and interoperability influence design choices.
