Klik is a term with multiple related meanings across language, technology, and culture. In Dutch and Afrikaans, klik is the ordinary word for the sound of a small object snapping into place or for the act of pressing a button, functioning as the equivalent of the English “click.” The word is widely used in everyday language and in user manuals in Dutch-speaking regions.

In computing and digital interfaces, a click refers to a user action that activates a control, such as selecting an item or initiating a command. While English-language materials typically use “click,” Dutch-language material often uses “klik” to describe the same action. In web development, events may be labeled as click events, with translations or localizations reflecting the local term.

In linguistics, klik denotes a class of speech sounds known as click consonants. These are produced by a rapid release of a closure formed at different places in the vocal tract and are characteristic of several southern African languages, such as Xhosa and Zulu, among others. The concept is commonly described in Afrikaans terminology as “klikklank.” There are several basic types of clicks, including dental, alveolar, lateral, and palatal, sometimes combined with other articulations.
