Keerringen, in Dutch mechanical engineering, are sealing elements used to seal a rotating shaft against a stationary housing. Their primary function is to retain lubricants within a housing and to prevent the ingress of dirt, dust and water. Keerringen are most commonly radial shaft seals, consisting of a metal outer case and an elastomer sealing lip that runs against the shaft.
