Precision depends on proper workpiece fixturing, tool condition, machine rigidity, and accurate calibration.

Safety and maintenance: operators secure and verify workpieces, use appropriate guards, and follow standard safety procedures. Regular maintenance includes lubrication, alignment checks, spindle and drive belt inspection, and monitoring tool wear.

History and impact: milling evolved from early machine tools in the 19th century and advanced significantly with CNC technology in the mid-to-late 20th century, enabling complex geometries and automated manufacturing.
