Intézményközpontú (also known as institution-centric or institution-centered) refers to an approach, concept or policy that places institutions at the core of its structure or decision-making processes. In the context of education, the term déscribes curricula, training programs or pedagogical methods that are designed around the practices, values, and resources of a particular institution such as a school, university or vocational center. The idea is to align learning objectives, assessment methods and administrative procedures closely with the internal culture and priorities of the institution, rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all external framework.

The concept is also used in public administration and social services, where policies and interventions are crafted to address the specific needs, regulations, and capabilities of local institutions, such as municipal governments, health clinics or NGOs. Proponents argue that institutional alignment increases relevance, improves stakeholder buy-in, and can streamline implementation by leveraging existing infrastructures and expertise. Critics caution that an overly centralized focus may stifle innovation, limit comparative learning from external models, and create insular practices that are less adaptable to broader societal changes.

Intézményközpontú strategies are common in European higher education, where universities often negotiate partnerships with industries or local communities to co-create experiential learning modules. In Hungary and neighboring countries, the model has also been applied to teacher training initiatives that embed trainees in school settings from the outset. Comparative studies suggest that institutions with a hybrid approach—balancing internal centering with openness to external standards—tend to achieve higher outcomes in both student performance and institutional accountability.
