Inputenhet, or an input device, is a hardware component used to provide data and control signals to a computer or other digital system. Inputenheter translate user actions or physical phenomena into digital data that the system can process. They are part of human–computer interaction and complement output devices, which present information to users, as well as storage devices, which retain data.

Common examples of inputenheter include keyboards for text and command entry, mice and trackpads for point-and-click control, touchscreens that combine input and display, scanners that convert physical documents into digital images, microphones for audio input, webcams for video capture, and game controllers or joysticks for interactive input. Digital cameras and graphics tablets are also widely used as input devices. In mobile and embedded devices, sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, and ambient light sensors serve as input sources to software and systems.

Technically, inputenheter connect to computers through various interfaces and protocols, with USB being the most common wired standard and Bluetooth or Wi-Fi used for wireless connections. Many devices convert analog signals to digital form via sensors or analog-to-digital converters, enabling the computer to interpret continuous physical quantities as discrete data. Some devices are strictly input (keyboard, microphone), some strictly output (monitor, speaker), and others are bidirectional or hybrid (touchscreen, interactive display, network adapters).
