ihmisoikeusliikkeet refers to organized campaigns, NGOs, and advocacy groups that pursue the protection, promotion and enforcement of human rights. The term is most commonly used in Finland and other Nordic countries, where it denotes a federation of civil society actors that collaborate on projects, lobbying and public education. The movement derives its roots from the post–World War II Europe when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted in 1948 and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 inspired national and regional initiatives.
