iDRAC9

iDRAC9, short for the ninth generation integrated Dell Remote Access Controller, is Dell's out-of-band management solution for Dell PowerEdge servers. It provides remote administration and maintenance capabilities independent of the server's operating system or installed software, and it is embedded into the server's motherboard or chipset.

Key features include remote console and virtual media, power control and monitoring, hardware inventory and health status, and proactive alerting. It provides remote access even when the server is down or inaccessible over the host network, and can help recover the system using remote console, power cycling, or remote media.

Interface and APIs: iDRAC9 provides a web-based graphical user interface, a RACADM command line interface, and a RESTful API based on Redfish for automation. It also includes the Lifecycle Controller for provisioning, firmware updates, and OS deployment, and can be managed locally or through Dell's OpenManage portfolio such as OpenManage Enterprise.

Licensing and editions: iDRAC9 ships with different licensing levels, commonly iDRAC Express with a subset of features and iDRAC Enterprise unlocking full remote console, virtual media, advanced alerting, and enhanced management. Some features require Enterprise licensing and compatible hardware.

Security and deployment: iDRAC9 supports TLS encryption, certificate management, role-based access control, and secure authentication. It can be deployed with either a dedicated management port or shared NIC configurations, and is designed to integrate with enterprise management workflows and monitoring systems.
