Hüposensitiivsus refers to a decreased sensory sensitivity. It is a neurological condition where an individual's brain does not process sensory information as intensely or efficiently as the average person. This can affect any of the senses, including sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell, vestibular (balance and movement), and proprioception (body awareness).

Individuals with hüposensitiivsus might seek out sensory input more intensely to feel adequately stimulated. For example, someone with tactile hüposensitiivisuus might enjoy deep pressure, tight hugs, or rough textures, and may not notice pain or temperature changes as readily. Those with auditory hüposensitiivisuus might not react to loud noises or may seem to ignore spoken words, requiring louder or more direct communication. Similarly, a person with vestibular or proprioceptive hüposensitiivisuus might engage in more movement, spinning, crashing, or jumping to feel grounded and aware of their body.

This condition is often associated with developmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and sensory processing disorder (SPD), though it can also occur independently. It is important to distinguish hüposensitiivisuus from hyper-sensitiivisuus, which involves an over-responsiveness to sensory stimuli.
