Hevosurheilu, meaning "horse sports" in Finnish, encompasses a wide range of competitive activities involving horses. Trotting races, often referred to as "ravit" in Finland, are a very popular form of horse sport. In these races, the horse pulls a driver in a lightweight sulky, and the horse must maintain a trot or pace, with a gallop resulting in disqualification. Harness racing has a long tradition in Finland and attracts significant public interest and betting.

Show jumping, or "esteratsastus," involves a horse and rider combination navigating a course of obstacles. The objective is to complete the course within a set time limit without knocking down any obstacles or incurring other penalties. Dressage, "kouluratsastus," focuses on the horse's obedience and suppleness, with horses performing a series of predetermined movements judged on their execution and harmony.
