A happimaskin is a device that provides supplemental oxygen by concentrating it from ambient air. It is used primarily in medical settings to treat hypoxemia and support patients with chronic respiratory conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or during acute illnesses that impair oxygen transfer.

Most modern happimaskin operate using pressure swing adsorption (PSA). An inlet air compressor draws room air, and specially designed beds containing zeolite adsorb nitrogen. Through cyclic switching, oxygen-rich air is produced and delivered to the patient through a nasal cannula or a mask. The delivered oxygen concentration and flow rate are set by the user or a clinician, typically specified in liters per minute (L/min). Consumer models commonly deliver about 1–5 L/min, while more capable units can provide higher flows for hospital or home-care needs. The devices generate oxygen-enriched gas rather than pure oxygen.

There are stationary home models and portable units designed for mobility. Portable happimaskin use lighter components and battery power, enabling ambulatory use, though often with lower output and shorter battery life than stationary units. Operation requires a reliable power source and proper humidification or tubing compatibility to maintain patient comfort and device performance.

Safety and maintenance are important: oxygen supports combustion, so smoking and oil-based products should be avoided nearby. Regular maintenance includes filter changes and periodic inspection of seals, hoses, and sieve beds as directed by the manufacturer.

Regulation and use vary by country, but happimaskin are generally classified as medical devices and require medical prescription, professional oversight, and adherence to applicable standards and quality controls.
