Gitaran is a term used in Indonesian and Malay-speaking communities to describe informal gatherings centered on playing guitar. Derived from the word gitar (guitar) plus the noun-forming suffix -an, gitaran denotes events or activities where players come together to perform, practice, and share musical ideas rather than to hold a formal concert.

Typically, a gitaran session takes place in casual settings such as private homes, practice studios, cafes, or public outdoor spaces. Participants usually bring their own guitars and related equipment; a lead guitarist or facilitator may suggest songs or chord progressions, but rotation and improvisation are common. Repertoire ranges from popular songs and standards to original compositions, with emphasis on listening, collaboration, and learning through doing.
