Approaches to fuktstyrning range from passive to active strategies. Passive measures include building design and insulation that reduce moisture ingress and control condensation. Active methods involve mechanical systems such as HVAC with dehumidification or humidification capabilities, dedicated dehumidifiers or humidifiers, and ventilation control. Desiccant-based systems and membrane or refrigerant-based dehumidification are commonly used for tighter control or energy efficiency. In museums and archives, stable RH reduces material degradation, while in agriculture or wood processing, specific moisture ranges optimize quality and stability. Regular maintenance, calibration of sensors, and monitoring of energy use are essential, as poor control can lead to mold growth, condensation, material damage, and unnecessary energy consumption.
