The finkatzen are a fictional semi-aquatic mammal described in speculative biology and in various field-guides within a unified fictional world. The name combines the idea of a fin-like dorsal crest with the word katze, reflecting their feline appearance and aquatic adaptations. In the internal taxonomy of this world, they are presented as a distinct family, Finkatzidae, within Carnivora, and are commonly placed in a small genus known as Finkatzus.

Physically, finkatzen are medium-sized with a body length of 45 to 70 cm and a tail of 25 to 40 cm. They weigh roughly 2 to 5 kg. They have dense short fur that ranges from olive-brown to gray, a flexible dorsal fin along the spine up to several centimeters tall, and webbed hind paws with retractable claws. Their eyes are relatively large, and they possess long whiskers suited to detecting movement in murky water.
