Filmipolymeerin is a hypothetical synthetic polymer designed to form uniform, continuous films for protective and functional coatings. The term combines “film” and “polymer” with the common polymer-name suffix “-erin.” In scholarly discussions, filmipolymeerin is treated as a family of polymers whose repeating units can be varied to tune film formation, mechanical strength, and thermal stability.

Its typical backbone comprises rigid, often aromatic, linkages that promote film integrity and thermal resistance. Heteroatom-containing bonds such as imide or amide linkages are commonly envisioned to enhance stiffness and opacity control, while pendant groups can improve solubility in polar aprotic solvents and facilitate processing. The glass transition temperature is reported in the high range for polymers, frequently cited around 150–260 C, with high thermal stability and chemical resistance.

Preparation generally involves condensation polymerization of dianhydride and diamine monomers, followed by a conversion step (such as thermal or chemical imidization) to yield the imide-containing backbone. Films can be produced by solution casting, spin coating, or solvent-free techniques, and then cured to achieve dense, solvent-barrier layers.

Applications proposed for filmipolymeerin include protective coatings for electronics and displays, barrier films for packaging, and optically clear coatings in solar cells. Properties of interest include optical transparency, low moisture permeability, strong adhesion to substrates, and compatibility with flexible materials.

As a concept within polymer research, practical deployment has been limited to academic or pilot-scale studies. Research focuses on tuning processability, environmental stability, and end-use performance, as well as developing greener synthesis routes and scalable processing methods.
