Familiarizándose is the present participle (gerund) of the Spanish pronominal verb familiarizarse, meaning to become familiar with something or to get accustomed to it. It expresses an ongoing process of acquiring knowledge, skills, or familiarity with a person, place, concept, or procedure. Because it is reflexive, the subject both undergoes and directs the process: one familiarizes oneself with something. In ordinary usage it appears with estar or other verbs to form a present progressive: está familiarizándose, se está familiarizando.

The form is typically followed by the preposition con to indicate the object of familiarity: familiarizarse con una norma, con un software, con un idioma, etc. It can also occur in constructions that emphasize gradual adjustment, such as irse familiarizando poco a poco.
