Elektroformointi, or electroforming in English, is a metal-forming process that uses an electroplating technique to create a hollow metal object. In this method, a mold, often made of wax or plastic, is coated with a conductive material, typically a thin layer of silver or copper. This conductive mold is then immersed in an electrolytic solution containing metal ions. When an electric current is applied, metal ions from the solution are deposited onto the conductive surface of the mold, gradually building up a layer of metal. Once the desired thickness is achieved, the mold is removed, leaving behind a hollow metal shell.

This process allows for the creation of intricate and complex shapes that would be difficult or impossible to achieve through traditional metalworking methods like casting or machining. The deposited metal layer can be very thin or relatively thick, depending on the application. Common metals used in electroforming include copper, nickel, gold, and silver. The resulting objects are known for their precision, fine detail, and lightweight nature due to their hollow structure.
