While MOBI was once a dominant format, Amazon has largely transitioned to its proprietary AZW format, which is based on MOBI but includes digital rights management (DRM) features. PDF (Portable Document Format) is also frequently used for e-books, especially for documents where precise layout and print fidelity are crucial, such as academic papers or scanned books. However, PDFs are generally not reflowable and can be challenging to read on smaller screens. Other less common formats exist, but EPUB, MOBI/AZW, and PDF represent the majority of e-book file types encountered by users.
