duroplaster

Duroplaster is a term used in some markets to describe a family of interior plaster products marketed under a brand name or generic descriptor. It does not refer to a single standardized material, but rather to polymer-modified gypsum or cementitious plasters intended for interior wall finishing.

The exact formulation of duroplaster products varies by manufacturer. Typical compositions include a gypsum or cementitious binder, mineral fillers, water-retaining agents, and polymers or plastisizers that improve adhesion, flexibility, and durability. Some versions may be reinforced with fibers to enhance strength and crack resistance.

Duroplaster finishes are generally designed to provide a smooth, ready-to-paint surface with faster set times than traditional plasters. Polymer-modified variants often offer better adhesion to substrates such as masonry, concrete, gypsum board, or cement-based substrates, and may have improved moisture resistance compared with conventional gypsum plasters. Gypsum-based versions, however, are more sensitive to moisture and humidity.

Applications for duroplaster include interior walls and ceilings, skim coats, patch repairs, and as a base or veneer plaster for decorative finishes. The appropriate thickness and number of coats depend on the product and substrate, and workmanship typically involves surface preparation, dampening, mixing according to manufacturer instructions, and finishing with trowel or skim coats.

Safety and handling considerations include dust control during handling and sanding, proper ventilation during application, and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Proper curing and moisture management are important to prevent cracking or deterioration.
