directdye
Direct dye, or direct dyes, refers to a class of water-soluble anionic textile dyes used primarily to color cellulose fibers such as cotton, viscose, and linen. These dyes are applied directly from an aqueous bath without the need for a mordant. They bind to cellulose through hydrogen bonding and ionic interactions with the fiber’s hydroxyl groups, often aided by the presence of salt to promote exhaustion in the dye bath.
In typical dyeing practice, direct dyes are used at mild temperatures in neutral to slightly alkaline conditions.
Fastness properties of direct dyes are generally moderate to poor compared with other dye classes. They usually
Environmental and regulatory considerations exist, as some direct dyes are azo compounds that can release aromatic
