In this construct, diSessas belongs to the family Luminaceae and includes six described species. The genus is notable for twin-stemmed shrubs that typically reach 1 to 3 meters in height, with dark green, glossy leaves arranged alternately along a woody stem. Flowers are small, five-petaled, and usually pale to bluish; they open at dusk and emit a gentle fragrance. The fruit is a small drupelike capsule containing several seeds.
