Depth ambiguity is a perceptual or computational condition in which the distance of scene elements from the observer cannot be determined uniquely from the available information. In vision science and computer vision, depth information is inferred from multiple cues, such as binocular disparity, motion parallax, occlusion, texture gradient, shading, and perspective. When these cues are insufficient, conflicting, or noisy, several distinct depth configurations can explain the same visual input, leading to depth ambiguity.
