Dashboards are categorized by purpose: executive dashboards focus on high-level KPIs; operational dashboards monitor ongoing processes and system status; analytical dashboards support data exploration and trend analysis.

Design considerations include clarity, consistency, and minimalism; effective use of color, typography, and whitespace; accessibility and responsive design for different devices; performance optimization for large data sets and smooth interactivity; and governance of data provenance, privacy, and security.

Implementation often involves front-end frameworks and charting libraries, with data pipelines and APIs supplying data. Common challenges include data integration, real-time updates, and ensuring the dashboard scales as data volume grows.
