cysticercoid
Cysticercoid is a larval form of certain tapeworms (class Cestoda) that develops in the body cavity or tissues of small arthropod intermediate hosts. In contrast to the cysticercus, which forms in vertebrate intermediate hosts and contains a fluid-filled vesicle, the cysticercoid is a compact, scolex-bearing larva within a small cyst-like structure. The scolex is already formed inside the cysticercoid and is ready to attach to the intestinal mucosa of its definitive host when released.
Life cycle: In the definitive host, adult tapeworms reside in the small intestine and release eggs within
Examples and hosts: Dipylidium caninum, the canine and feline tapeworm, uses fleas as intermediate hosts and
Diagnosis and treatment: Diagnosis of cysticercoid-based infections relies on identification of the adult worm or eggs
