A conule is a type of marine snail belonging to the family Conidae, commonly known as cone snails or cone shells. These predatory gastropods are characterized by their conical shell, which is often brightly colored and patterned, making them popular with shell collectors. Conules are found in tropical and subtropical waters worldwide, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.

The most notable feature of conules is their highly specialized hunting method. They possess a modified radula, a ribbon-like tongue with sharp, harpoon-like teeth called denticles. These denticles are used to inject venom into their prey, which includes fish, other mollusks, and marine worms. The venom is a complex mixture of neurotoxins, and its composition varies depending on the species of conule. While most conule venoms are only potent enough to immobilize small prey, some species, such as the geography cone (Conus geographus), possess venom that is dangerous to humans and can be fatal.

The sting of a conule can cause a range of symptoms in humans, from localized pain and swelling to more severe neurological effects. Medical attention is advised for any significant sting. Despite their potential danger, conules play an important role in marine ecosystems as predators. Research into their venom has also led to the development of new pain-relieving medications, such as ziconotide.
