Containerlocator is a term used to describe a system or component that identifies and tracks the location of containers—physical freight containers as well as digital containers—in distributed environments.

In logistics, containerlocator refers to a set of hardware and software that gathers location and condition data via GPS, RFID, barcodes, and IoT sensors attached to containers. The data is integrated with transportation management systems, warehouse management systems, and ERP to provide real-time visibility, status updates, temperature readings, and ETA.

In computing contexts, containerlocator can denote tooling for locating container instances in clusters or service meshes. It assists in scheduling, monitoring, debugging, scaling, and security by providing per-container or per-service location information across nodes, regions, or cloud accounts.

Architecture often comprises sensors/tags, gateways, a cloud backend, databases, and application programming interfaces. Data flows from devices to gateways, to centralized processing and analytics, then to dashboards or alerting systems.
