A conservationist is a person who advocates for and engages in the protection, restoration, and sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystems. Conservationists work across disciplines and sectors. They conduct field surveys, monitor species and habitats, restore degraded ecosystems, and develop land-use plans that balance development with conservation. They may advise governments, manage protected areas, lead NGO campaigns, teach communities, or conduct research in universities. Conservation is related to, but distinct from, preservation and environmental advocacy.
