Colorsoften is a term used in color processing to describe the intentional reduction of color intensity, or chroma, in an image or design to produce softer, pastel-like hues while preserving overall luminance and tonal balance.

In digital workflows, colorsoften can be implemented by compressing chroma channels in a perceptual color space such as Lab or Luv, or by applying nonlinear saturation controls that preserve luminance. It aims to reduce vividness without washing out details, using gamma-corrected adjustments to avoid harsh shifts in midtones.

Methods include selective desaturation of highly saturated regions, chroma compression in a perceptual color space, and careful gamut management to prevent color clipping. Software tools typically offer presets or sliders that model this behavior, enabling iterative experimentation.
