Charging network refers to an integrated system of electric vehicle charging points operated and managed to provide access, payment, and monitoring for EV users. It combines hardware (charging stations), software (back-end platforms), and services (billing, authentication, support) to enable locating, starting, and paying for charging in a coordinated way. Networks may be run by private companies, utilities, municipalities, or cross-industry consortia, and often span parking facilities, workplaces, shopping centers, and public streets.

Charging points vary in power and standard, including AC Level 2 and DC fast charging, with connectors such as Type 2, CCS, and CHAdeMO. The central management platform tracks station status, session data, and energy delivery, and may provide load management and grid interactions. Communication between stations and the back-end commonly uses standards like the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP), while automated authentication and billing are supported by ISO 15118 (Plug and Charge) where available.

User interaction is typically through mobile apps, RFID cards, or built-in vehicle systems, enabling account registration, payment, and session control. Roaming and interoperability allow users to charge across networks with a single account or payment method, often facilitated by roaming platforms and standardized billing interfaces.

Deployment considerations include reliability, pricing models, maintenance, data privacy, and cybersecurity. The growth of charging networks is influenced by charger density, grid capacity, and advances in standardization, aiming to provide convenient, scalable access to electric mobility across regions.
