Cementscreeds are thin, cement‑based floor coverings applied over structural slab, concrete, or sub‑floor surfaces to create a smooth, level walking surface. They are composed of Portland cement, fine aggregates such as sand, water, and often admixtures that improve workability, setting time, or durability. The mixed material is poured or pumped onto the substrate and spread with a screed bar or machine, forming a uniform thickness typically ranging from 10 mm to 30 mm.

The primary functions of cementscreeds are to level uneven substrates, provide a stable base for floor finishes (tile, carpet, resilient flooring), and contribute to thermal and acoustic insulation when combined with lightweight aggregates. Various types exist, including traditional sand‑cement screeds, dry‑mix screeds that incorporate polymer or fiber reinforcement, and rapid‑set screeds designed to achieve high early strength for fast project turnover.

Installation follows a sequence of surface preparation, priming, screed placement, and curing. Proper moisture control of the underlying slab is essential to prevent premature drying and cracking. Curing is usually achieved by maintaining a moist environment for at least 24–48 hours, after which the screed can be walked on and later covered with the final floor finish.

Cementscreeds comply with standards such as EN 13285 (European specification for cementitious screeds) and ASTM C1140 (specification for flowable fill). Advantages include cost‑effectiveness, ease of installation, and compatibility with many finish materials. Limitations involve susceptibility to shrinkage cracks if not cured correctly and lower compressive strength compared with thicker concrete slabs, making them unsuitable for heavy industrial loads. Regular inspection and maintenance of joints and edges help extend the service life of cementscreeds.
