Bändelaxität, often translated as ligamentous laxity or joint hypermobility, refers to a condition where ligaments, the tough fibrous tissues that connect bones to each other at joints, are looser than usual. This increased elasticity can lead to joints having a greater range of motion than is typically considered normal. It is a spectrum, with some individuals experiencing mild laxity that causes no significant issues, while others might have pronounced laxity that contributes to a variety of symptoms.

The condition can be generalized, affecting multiple joints throughout the body, or localized to a specific joint. It can be congenital, meaning present from birth, or acquired later in life due to factors such as trauma or certain medical conditions. While not always problematic, bändelaxität can predispose individuals to joint instability, dislocations, sprains, and chronic pain. It may also be associated with other connective tissue disorders. Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination assessing joint range of motion, often using standardized scales like the Beighton score.
