Basolatéral refers to a medical condition characterized by the presence of a lateral (side) bulge or hernia in the abdomen. This condition occurs when a portion of the abdominal wall or internal organs protrudes through a weakness in the muscle or connective tissue, typically on the side of the body. Basolatéral is often associated with increased intra-abdominal pressure, such as that experienced during heavy lifting, coughing, or straining.

The exact cause of basolatéral is not always clear, but it is often linked to factors such as aging, obesity, chronic coughing, or previous abdominal surgeries. Symptoms may include a visible bulge on the side of the abdomen, discomfort or pain, and a feeling of fullness or pressure in the abdomen. In some cases, the herniated tissue may become trapped or strangulated, leading to more severe complications such as bowel obstruction or ischemia.

Diagnosis of basolatéral typically involves a physical examination and imaging studies such as ultrasound or CT scan. Treatment options depend on the severity of the condition and may include lifestyle modifications, such as avoiding heavy lifting or straining, weight loss, and the use of supportive garments.
