A bankkaart is a payment card issued by a bank that allows its holder to access funds from a linked bank account for cash withdrawals and payments. In the Netherlands and other parts of Europe the term is used to describe the debit card that debits funds from a current account at the moment of the transaction rather than extending credit. The card can be used to pay at point-of-sale terminals by inserting or tapping the card and entering a PIN, and it can also be used for contactless payments where supported. It can additionally be used to withdraw cash at automated teller machines (ATMs).
