Antitérmico is a term derived from Greek and Latin, combining "anti" meaning against, and "thermos" meaning heat. In medicine, it refers to a substance or treatment that reduces fever. Fever, also known as pyrexia, is an elevated body temperature that is often a symptom of an underlying illness or infection. Antitérmicos work by acting on the body's thermoregulatory center in the hypothalamus, helping to lower the set point for body temperature.
