alamalar
Alamalar is a Turkish plural noun that can refer to emblems, insignia, or banners, especially within historical, ceremonial, or heraldic contexts. The term derives from the singular alam, meaning a banner or standard, itself related to the Persian/Arabic word alam (banner). In Ottoman and earlier Persianate cultures, alamlar were carried as symbols of military unit identity, religious affiliation, or political allegiance. They were often elaborately designed with inscriptions, coats of arms, religious motifs, or heraldic devices, and were borne by standard-bearers known as alamdar.
In discussions of art history, ceremony, and ethnography, alamlar appear in processions, public rituals, and battlefield
In contemporary Turkish, the plural alamlar is relatively rare outside of historical or literary contexts. More
