An admirer is a person who feels admiration toward another person, an object, or an achievement and may express esteem through words, actions, or gifts. The term is commonly used for romantic or platonic appreciation, but it also describes fans of public figures, artists, or ideas. The word derives from the verb admire; its etymology traces to Latin admirari, meaning to wonder at or regard with approval.

In interpersonal contexts, an admirer may act by offering compliments, writing notes, or giving small tokens. A secret admirer is someone who expresses interest without revealing identity. In culture and fandom, admirers may be fans who follow a celebrity, athlete, or creator and support their work.

Psychologically, admiration involves positive evaluation of another’s qualities and can motivate learning, imitation, or prosocial behavior. It can contribute to relationship formation when pursued with consent and respect, but it can also become problematic if it turns into persistent surveillance or unwanted attention.
