Zambias

Zambia, officially the Republic of Zambia, is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. It is bordered by Tanzania and Malawi to the northeast and east, Mozambique to the southeast, Zimbabwe to the south, Botswana and Namibia to the southwest, Angola to the northwest, and a short border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north. The capital and largest city is Lusaka. The country covers about 752,600 square kilometers and features plateaus, river valleys, and the Zambezi River corridor. The climate is tropical with a rainy season roughly from November to April.

Zambia is a unitary presidential republic. The president serves as both head of state and head of government, and a multi-party National Assembly is elected to five-year terms. Since independence from the United Kingdom in 1964, Zambia has undergone political and economic reforms, transitioning to multiparty democracy in the early 1990s. The official language is English, with widely spoken local languages including Bemba, Nyanja, Tonga, and Lozi.

The economy is heavily based on copper mining, concentrated in the Copperbelt region, which has shaped economic policy and development. Copper and cobalt exports are major sources of foreign exchange, while agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism contribute to growth. The Zambian kwacha is the currency. Tourism is supported by wildlife areas and major attractions such as Victoria Falls along the Zambezi River, as well as national parks like South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi.

As of the early 2020s, Zambia has a population of around 18 million. The country is known for its diverse cultures, wildlife, and rich natural resources, making it a significant regional actor in Southern Africa.
