Zambian

Zambian is the demonym and adjectival form used for anything related to Zambia, a landlocked country in Southern Africa. As a demonym, it refers to people who are citizens or permanent residents of Zambia; as an adjective, it describes things connected with the country, such as Zambian culture, Zambian English, or Zambian cuisine.

Zambia is named after the Zambezi River and borders Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with its capital at Lusaka. The official language is English, while many Zambians speak Bemba, Nyanja (Chewa), Tonga, Lozi, Lunda, Kaonde, and other local languages. The term Zambian encompasses all citizens regardless of ethnicity, reflecting the country’s diverse society.

Independence from the United Kingdom in 1964 established the modern Zambian state and shaped a national identity that transcends ethnic lines. The country’s currency is the Zambian kwacha (ZMW).
