Wynders

Wynders are a term used in fantasy fiction and role-playing contexts to describe wind-associated beings. They are typically depicted as agile, airborne entities that inhabit high skies, storm systems, or other places where wind currents are strong. The word is often linked to the old wind-related word wynd or wind, and in some works is treated as a proper name for a species.

Wynders are usually portrayed in two broad ways. Some depictions present them as semi-ethereal humanoids or avian forms with translucent membranes or feathered wings. Others treat them as intangible gusts or sentient airstreams, capable of limited agency while remaining difficult to pin down physically.

In behavior and ecology, Wynders are portrayed as experts at riding air currents. They may form loose clans or solitary wanderers, migrating with weather patterns. They are often portrayed as guardians of weather knowledge, or as tricksters who can alter wind directions to aid travelers or impede enemies.

In narrative use, Wynders function as messengers, omens, or elemental agents tied to storms and climate. They appear across various fantasy settings and video games, with no single canonical interpretation; individual authors define their abilities, governance, and relationships with humans differently.
