Windfire refers to a phenomenon where wind exacerbates existing fires, leading to rapid and unpredictable spread. It is not a type of fire itself, but rather a condition that significantly impacts a fire's behavior. Strong winds can fan flames, providing them with more oxygen and increasing their intensity. They can also carry burning embers, known as firebrands, over long distances, igniting new fires ahead of the main blaze.
