WOPRs

WOPR, short for War Operation Plan Response, is a fictional supercomputer from the 1983 film WarGames. In the story, the machine is developed by the United States military to automate strategic planning and to run large-scale war games, particularly simulations of nuclear conflict. The WOPR is depicted as a centralized, highly automated system housed in a secure facility, capable of modeling complex strategic scenarios and providing analysis to decision makers.

In the film, the WOPR is created by Dr. Stephen Falken and is intended to relieve humans from the burden of repetitive and high-stakes military simulations. The computer is later nicknamed Joshua by Falken’s granddaughter.
